Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Charlie’s Dream – His own building
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Charlie died on May 1st, 2020.  We miss him terribly.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather.  His dream has come true thanks to some very generous donations.

Scroll down to see the available dogs and puppies! Most are here now just waiting for you!

The Next Transport arrives on Saturday July 13th.

Here is Ava!

Ava- Sadly- Ava’s family surrendered her to the shelter down south when they were moving and couldn’t take her with them.

In an over crowded shelter this is almost certainly a death sentence.

But the shelter volunteers spoke up for this beautiful girl as she is so wonderful.

They advocated for her to find a transport up north where Ava will find the family she deserves and be loved.

They called us at RCF and of course we would love to welcome Ava here in Maine.

As you can see Ava is very friendly, knows some basic commands and is polite for treats.

She loves people and other dogs.

Ava love to play and run with her doggie friends.

She loves to go on long walks as well, especially with her own family.

Ava is an amazing girl who is looking for her forever loving family.

Miranda

Miranda is a big, sweet one year old beautiful girl.

Hi I’m Miranda!

I am the sweetest girl around and very pretty.

I am big though and even though I don’t mean to, I might knock little toddlers over by accident when I am playing.

I will do better with kids above twelve years old.

If you are looking for a turn key pup I’m your girl!!

This wonderful girl is starting the search for her family! Can you help her find them?

Nana

This sweet girl is Nana.

She is a two year old little mixed breed girl.

Nana weighs approx. 25 pounds.

Hi Y’all, I am Nana

She’s just a little peanut with her beautiful long hair!

Nana loves to play and run outside. Going on walks is another favorite of her things to do.

She would also love to hang out on the couch with her humans to watch a good movie, as long as it is not a scary one!

We’re happy to be able to bring her to Maine to find her family!

Meet Hoover,

Hoover is a very smart boy- within a few weeks with the foster family he already knows how to sit, down, give a paw, roll over, and stay.
Hoover knows to go outside for the bathroom.
He is working on crate training also.
Hoover likes walks and does a good job walking.
He gets pretty excited for squirrels, dogs, and sometimes other people but he is learning to heel on walks to help with the occasional pull.
He love car rides, and go on adventures.
Once you meet him, Hoover is your friend.
Hoover is really friendly and loves being next to people, sitting at their feet.
He also loves hugs and belly rubs.
He’d be great for someone who is retired or stays at home as he loves having company (his name could have been shadow!).
Hoover is also very good about staying off furniture and not jumping.
Hoover is great with kids, gentle with little ones and loves a good tug of war game with his foster family’s six year old.
Hoover is looking for his family here in Maine!

In rescue…. We here in Maine are the lucky ones.

We get to place these dogs into the very best loving homes.

But the stories we hear about the dogs we take in, will break your heart, and really take away your faith in humanity.

This is Goldilocks.

She was found in a dumpster, and how sad, she wasn’t the only dog dumped in there….

Worse than that.

Goldilocks was the only one to come out alive.

She had a horrendous beginning, and that’s all we needed to know about her to say yes- absolutely we’ll take her and find the family she deserves.

Goldilocks deserves a life and family so wonderful that she will never look back on her beginning.

Hanz - I'm a Boy!
Hi there, I’m Hanz!

I’ve got a heart full of sweetness and a head full of goofiness.
My days are packed with play and I’m always ready to greet everyone with a friendly wag.

I am a big boy but I’m perfect, if I may say so myself.
My foster says that I am the easiest dog they ever fostered.

They said that I am  very sweet, polite and so cute and goofy when I am feeling playful.

I am also very gentle for the children in my foster home, so that they can walk me too.

I do think I would do best in a quiet home, so that I can take my beauty naps peacefully.

Adopting me means gaining a loyal friend who will bring joy, laughter, and a dash of silliness into your life every day.
Will you adopt me?

Snow - I'm a Girl!

This beauty is Snow.

Friends, meet Snow.

This gorgeous girl is here in Maine and is looking for her forever home.

Writing this post makes me cry a bit as we love her and she’s the perfect house guest but, in order to save more dogs, I need to leave space in my home to foster again.

Snow may be 65 pounds but she truly is a gentle giant.

She’s been great with all dogs she has met, is absolutely fine with my cat, and is great with my three year old daughter.

She has not had one accident in my home and is crate trained, although she doesn’t really need to be crated.

She walks well on leash and mainly likes to lounge although she does dance when excited and she offers her paw when she meets new people.

Snow’s ideal home would be with someone who works from home or is retired as she likes to go outside to potty every few hours (although she sleeps through the night with no need for a potty break).

Ideally her home would have at least one woman as she can be shy around men (she warms up quickly but women give her confidence).

She could go to a home with or without a dog but would prefer a lower energy companion and not a hyper, in her face type dog.

And while Snow has been amazing with my three year old and the neighbor’s kids, I think she would prefer a quieter home with older or no kids.

This girl so deserves to find a forever home where she will be loved and spoiled.

Will that be you?

All Husky Lovers meet Elton,

This gorgeous guy is not your typical high energy husky.
He was very loved and trained very well.
Will he need exercise like any young, large dog? Of course!
But Elton is super well trained and well behaved.
He is happily living with several other dogs, children and a cat in his foster home.
They even have some livestock which hasn’t been an issue either.
His new family will be so lucky to have him.

Can you imagine someone dumping us as puppies somewhere outside in the cold?
It seems impossible but, sadly, that was what happened to us.
Luckily we were found before we got hurt, and now we will be coming to Maine soon. YAY!!
Me and my sis Bee are pretty quickly learning to walk on a leash with our foster here.
We are also pretty good, if I can say so myself, with doing our biz outside.
Both Bee and I were overwhelmed at the shelter, it was very noisy and scary there.

We are very polite and sweet with other dogs. Of course we do need some puppy manners, and commands training.
We are very loving too, I give the best smooches, my sis wants too but is a little bit shy at first.
Would you like to adopt me or  my sis? or Both?

Thank you again for all of your hard work!

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.
