Will you help rescue his friends?

Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Charlie’s Dream – His own building
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Charlie died on May 1st, 2020.  We miss him terribly.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather.  We already have the land.  We have most of the funds needed for a building.  We hope to raise the rest soon so we can make his dream come true.  You can help with a donation to his GoFundMe account.

Meet Charlie's Friends

Charlie with help from our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and donors is rescuing lots of his friends. Even more this year than last year. Wow!

Click here to see some of the many dogs that have already found new homes.

All dogs and puppies adopted through Rescue Charlie’s Friends are in full compliance with all Maine health requirements including quarantine periods, exceed the minimum age for importation, have current health certificates, have received all age appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered.

They are all here!  They have completed their quarantine and will be going home to their new families on Saturday, June 12th.

There are a few people who backed out at the last minute so those dogs are available again.  Scroll down to see them.

Dixie

Hi, I’m Dixie.  I love to walk in the woods and ride in the boat.  In fact, every day since I got rescued has been WONDERFUL!  I love to be around people and I’m fine with other dogs.  I still have a lot of energy so sometimes I might accidently bump a little toddler and knock him down.  But I still love them and will be glad to lick them and make it all better.

I can’t wait for someone to adopt me and let me be a part of a real family.

Will you adopt me? I will love you forever and ever!

Rescue Charlies Friends Dog Rescue Maine
Dixie

Here is what Dixie's Foster said about her

She’s a great dog. Awesome on the leash. House broken. Friendly, very happy. She’s a little apprehensive when meeting new people, but submissive and friendly.

We went to the lake yesterday, she hung out all day, did awesome on the boat. Has had a couple long walks in the woods.
Great with older kids.

She has met our little puppy, she would like to play with him but she is double his size so we didn’t let her. We had her outside with our other dog this morning, both on leashes. She was a little excited  but was soon able to lay down calmly near her.  She met our cat, it didn’t even phase her when the cat hit her on the head as she walked by.

We passed a couple dogs on the trails in the woods and Dixie was totally non reactive. She even will sit as they go by.

She is big, probably 55 pounds and may be a little overweight.  She should be walked 30-45 minutes a day.  She is not really a runner, haven’t seen much crazy zoomies or anything.

She knows her name, Dixie

I love quiet walks on the beach and laying on the porch.  I would love to be your best friend!

So I hear that my sister Shania thinks she is daddy’s favorite daughter.  Just let her think that.  I know that I’m really the favorite but just let Shania think she is.  It doesn’t do any harm and it makes her feel better.  It’s great for her self image and self confidence.

Meanwhile, why not adopt me?  My head is in reality, not fantasy.

Shorty

Shorty is a male ten month old Chihuahua mix.

This is his  story, as told by his Rescuers in Alabama:

“This handsome young man is Shorty. He came to a shelter after a meth lab drug bust. We think he was high on meth on arrival and prolonged exposure has made him blind. He is around 10 months old.
There are some neurological issues. Sometimes he barks at his own tail.

He is underweight, weighing only four pounds. This is either from lack of food or from too much drug exposure.

Sometimes he walks wobbly and is unsteady on his feet. The veterinarian thought this is likely his brain not telling his body what to do,  but he does get around fine.

He has sensitive paw pads so we are using washable puppy pads and paw balm. He is loving, sweet and deserves to live a life where he will no longer be in harm’s way, fed regularly, loved, and his very special needs are taken care of.

He will likely live in long term foster care if not adopted. He will have on going needs.”

So that is what they told us about Shorty.

Are you the person he needs?  Are you the person who will take care of him?

Rescue Charlies Friends Dog Rescue Maine
Shorty

I’m Shorty.  Did they tell you about my life before I was rescued?

Well it was a little strange.  A lot strange actually.  But I still love people and I will love you if you will adopt me.  Will you?

Hi, my name is Sue.  I’m still a puppy at heart.  At least I still have lots of energy.  I really love everyone I meet.  Can I meet you?  I’m sure I will love you too.

We could be great friends.  We could go everywhere together and go for walks and… Do you have any balls you can throw for me?

I love to chase balls and bring them back to you.

Winston

Winston is a male Shepherd / Corgi mix.  He is one year old.

They say I need to “Learn my manners”.  Well, that’s just because no one has ever taught me.  I mean, what if no one ever told you not to talk with your mouth full.  You would probably  do it, right?  Well, it’s like that with me.

So if you adopt me and show me how you want me to behave, I promise to do my BEST to please you.  OK?

Hello, my name is Spot.  I like my name because it goes with the spots on my back.  I’ve never really had a family of my own, so I’m hoping that I will get adopted when I come to Maine.

Will you adopt me?  Wouldn’t that be cool?  You could say “This is my dog Spot” and I would wiggle and be so happy.  The sound of it brings a tear to my eye.  “This is my dog Spot”  MY DOG.  How I’ve always wanted to be a part of a family.

Will it be yours?  Will I be YOUR DOG SPOT?

Bonnie

Hello, I’m Bonnie.  I’m going to tell you right now – I don’t like being on a leash.  There, I said it.  I just wanted to get that out on the table right up front.

What?  You won’t adopt me if I won’t walk on a leash?

OK, lets talk.  Maybe we can work this out if we take it little by little.  OK?  I love everybody and I really, really want to be adopted.  So maybe if we take the leash thing slowly we can work up to it.  What if we just put the leash on me and you let me walk around the house with it on so I get used to it.  You know, it will be like “OH that thing is still following me.  It must be OK.”

I’m willing to try because I really want to please you and I REALLY want to be adopted.

Hi, I’m Val.  I’m a very sociable Terrier.  Sometimes I’m a little shy at first, but I’ll warm up to you quickly.

I’m the mother of Kineo.  Isn’t he gorgeous?  I think he may be the best and cutest little puppy ever.  I don’t think I’m biased, at least not so much that I can’t be objective, but I do think he is the greatest.

I do have a little problem.  I tested heartworm positive.  I’m being treated now and I will soon be fine, but I won’t be coming to Maine until around July.

Will you adopt me?

Roo

Well Hello!  I’m Roo.  I am oh so very sweet and gentle and well behaved.

I’m good with everything – kids, dogs and I love everyone.  I don’t know anything about cats – I’ve never been around them.  Are they fun to chase?  Oops.  I didn’t mean to say that.  I might be good with cats.  We just won’t know until we try.

Will you adopt me?

What people are saying

Everyone at Rescue Charlie’s Friends, we can’t thank you enough for all that you do with your amazing rescue! Our new addition Clara (aka Azure) is loving her new life here in Lincolnville and her new friend Trigger is in love.

Thank you again for all of your hard work!

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.

PLEASE keep up the good work you are doing both for the dogs and the families that are fortunate enough to adopt them.

From Foster to Adopter

I have always been a dog person.
For as long as I can remember I have had a special bond with these four legged loves.
When my karma died I thought that my heart would rip in two. To me, and many other pet owners, a dog is very much a part of your family, another child. There is nothing like the love that a dog has for their humans.
For many years I have wanted another dog, but as we all know it’s a lot of work and I’ve got enough going on in my life, Ha!

Fostering has been wonderful, it helps teach my kids responsibility, it shows them the importance of volunteer work and helping other beings, we get to have puppies around, and we got to save all of these beautiful dogs who otherwise wouldn’t have it so great.

I would highly recommend it for anyone out there who is a dog lover. It’s hard, yes, because you do fall in love, but it also gives life so much meaning, and it’s such an amazing feeling to see these dogs go to a new special home after coming from not so great circumstances.

This dog right here came into our life by chance. We are going away and the rescue just needed help with her for the weekend so they asked us. From the moment she got into our car, something was different. There was an immediate bond with my oldest and when we took her home it quickly extended to everyone. It just felt like she was coming home. We were absolutely not thinking about getting another dog right now, but just like Hazel, we absolutely could not let her go. She just fit. Even Hazel is realizing that she has a new body. This poor sweet dog had a rough beginning, but we’re here to make sure that the rest of her life is a grand one! I am so thankful that this sweet soul chose us. ❤️
