Will you help rescue his friends?

Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Charlie’s Dream – His own building
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Charlie died on May 1st, 2020.  We miss him terribly.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather.  We will do all we can to make his dream come true.  You can help with a donation to his GoFundMe account.

WE ARE SOOO EXCITED!

The wonderful people at WPOR are partnering with Rescue Charlie’s Friends to help raise money for Charlie’s Building!

Jon, Joe and Courtney host our weekly broadcast talking about Rescue Charlie’s Friends and the work we do rescuing dogs, bringing them to Maine and matching them with their new families.

January 30th is Coming Soon!

We notified everyone by email when we started adding about 70 new adults and puppies on the website!  All of them are on the website now.  Sometimes, for whatever reason, people back out before the adoption is complete.  That means that even though a dog is “Adoption Pending”, it might become available again.  We have no way of knowing whether that will happen.

If you want to be the first to know what is coming, please sign up for our email.  We will notify you by email when new dogs are being added to the website.  We will NOT spam you, nor do we share our email list with anyone, ever.

Hi, I’m Ranger,

I will be in Maine soon.  River and I were very excited when they told us we were going to Maine.  We have heard a lot of stories about Rescue Charlie’s Friends and how they bring dogs to Maine and get them adopted into loving forever families.  May I become a part of your family?  I have a lot of love to give.

Will you adopt me?

I love everyone.  I can be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly.  I just want to be sure I can trust you before I get too comfy with you.

Please don’t tell the girls.  I really love them and  I don’t want to hurt their feelings, but I feel a little embarrassed wearing dresses and costumes.  They dress me up over and over all day long – dresses, sweaters, halloween costumes and on and on.  Then they take me around and show off their handy work to anyone who will look.

I guess it’s OK.  Truth is I LOVE the attention. and I am very proud that the girls take such good care of me.  I love them and they love me too.  I can tell.

So please just forget I ever mentioned it.

Hi, I’m Tony,

I was adopted and had a great life, but it turned out my new mom was allergic to me.  How sad!

So now I’ve been kicked out and I’m looking for a new family.  I love everybody and I get along great with other dogs. Will you adopt me?

Hi, I’m Lobo.

When I arrived at the shelter my fur was so matted that they couldn’t even brush it out.  My skin was very irritated from that mess. That’s why they had to shave me down.

I’m good now and I promise my fur will grow back as good as new.

I’ll be in Maine soon and when I get there I really hope to be adopted.

Will you adopt me!

Hi, I’m Gerti,

You won’t believe what happened to my brothers and sisters.  We were tossed out at the side of the road and just left there.  Cars were whizzing by.  I told everyone to stay off the road but not everyone listened.  There were five of us and Mathilda and I are the only survivors.

Eventually some people picked us up and took us somewhere safe.  Soon we are coming to Maine to be adopted!  We are SOOO excited and can hardly wait!

Willard & Gordon

The Police Department removed Willard and Gordon from an abusive home and took them to a shelter.  They are brothers and are one year old Labrador mixes.

I’m Gordon. Did you know that Willard and I are brothers?  Well, we are.  We had a tough time where we were living. Life was hard.

Some policemen took us to a shelter.  We were so glad to get out of that house.

We were scared to death when we got to the shelter.  We didn’t know if they were going to be nice to us or what.  But they were!  Nice, I mean.  More than nice.  They really tried to show us that everything was going to be OK.

We went to live with a foster for a while and then lived with another one.  After a couple of weeks we learned to trust them and knew that they would not hurt us.

Then, and this is the best part, they told us that Rescue Charlie’s Friends was going to take us to Maine and we were going to get adopted.  That’s the first time I ever saw my brother cry with happiness.  OK, OK, truth is I was crying too.

Are you the one who is going to adopt us?  I hope so.

As you can see in the video, when Willard and Gordon first arrived at the shelter they were afraid of people.  It took some patience to convince them that people could be trusted to be kind to them.

Molly is a female Chiweenie.  she is two to four years old.  Molly has three puppies, two Boys and a Girl

Most people call me Molly, but some call me Tiny.  I’m OK with either one, just don’t forget to call me for dinner!

I’m very sweet and I love everyone I meet.  I’m great with other dogs too.  I know to be submissive and I’m never aggressive.  Considering how small I am, it would be dumb to be aggressive!

By the way, have you seen my little babies?  They are really cute.  They may be the best looking puppies ever, but I suppose all mommies say that.

Anyway, my babies and I are coming to Maine soon and we all hope to be adopted.  Will you adopt one of my babies?  Will you adopt me?

Can’t they just stop.  Take a nap.  Be quiet!

Please adopt me and get me out of here!  At least adopt some of my brothers. Adopt them all. Please!  There are just too many of them and I can’t take it any more!  After seeing this I don’t ever want to be a mother!

Hi I’m Ringo.

I was chained to that tree my whole life until the nice people came and took me away.  I was so very happy to get rescued and unchained from that tree.

They told me I would be going to Maine.  That’s nice, I thought, but I had no idea where Maine is, but anything is better than being chained up all the time.

Then you know what happened?

They said when I get to Maine I will get adopted.  Adopted!  WOW!  That means I will get a family I can love and that loves me.  That is a dream come true!

I can’t wait to be adopted. Will it be you?

Hi I’m Julianne and I hope you adopt my brother Derek.  Why? Because he needs someone to teach him some manners and he won’t listen to me.  “Don’t eat with your mouth open, Don’t drag your blanket all over the house”  I keep telling him but I am not his mother and I want someone else to take over his upbringing.

I love her but I hope she gets adopted.  Soon. VERY SOON.

Simon & Garfunkel are our Dogs of the Week!

Simon and Garfunkel

Simon and Garfunkel are about one and a half years old.  They were surrendered by their owner to a shelter that would not have been able to keep them long. Rescue Charlie’s Friends was able to rescue them in time.  They have been living together and we prefer that they be adopted together.

Simon and Garfunkel did NOT arrive in September as originally scheduled.  Unfortunately they tested positive for heartworm. so they have to stay in Alabama until their treatment is complete and they test negative.  That usually takes two or three months, so we expect they will arrive in Maine on January 30th.

What people are saying

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.

PLEASE keep up the good work you are doing both for the dogs and the families that are fortunate enough to adopt them.

From Foster to Adopter

I have always been a dog person.
For as long as I can remember I have had a special bond with these four legged loves.
When my karma died I thought that my heart would rip in two. To me, and many other pet owners, a dog is very much a part of your family, another child. There is nothing like the love that a dog has for their humans.
For many years I have wanted another dog, but as we all know it’s a lot of work and I’ve got enough going on in my life, Ha!

Fostering has been wonderful, it helps teach my kids responsibility, it shows them the importance of volunteer work and helping other beings, we get to have puppies around, and we got to save all of these beautiful dogs who otherwise wouldn’t have it so great.

I would highly recommend it for anyone out there who is a dog lover. It’s hard, yes, because you do fall in love, but it also gives life so much meaning, and it’s such an amazing feeling to see these dogs go to a new special home after coming from not so great circumstances.

This dog right here came into our life by chance. We are going away and the rescue just needed help with her for the weekend so they asked us. From the moment she got into our car, something was different. There was an immediate bond with my oldest and when we took her home it quickly extended to everyone. It just felt like she was coming home. We were absolutely not thinking about getting another dog right now, but just like Hazel, we absolutely could not let her go. She just fit. Even Hazel is realizing that she has a new body. This poor sweet dog had a rough beginning, but we’re here to make sure that the rest of her life is a grand one! I am so thankful that this sweet soul chose us. ❤️
