Here's Charlie

Will you help rescue his friends?

Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Charlie’s Dream
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Charlie died on May 1st, 2020.  We miss him terribly.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather and operate not just as a dog rescue but as a dog shelter. We will do all we can to make his dream come true.  You can help with a donation to his GoFundMe account.

Meet Charlie's Friends

Charlie with help from our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and donors is rescuing lots of his friends. Even more this year than last year. Wow!

Click here to see some of the many dogs that have already found new homes.

All dogs and puppies adopted through Rescue Charlie’s Friends are in full compliance with all Maine health requirements including quarantine periods, exceed the minimum age for importation, have current health certificates, have received all age appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered.

If you want to be the first to know, get a sneak peek and be notified of our adoption events, just sign up for our email.

They are here!

All the new adults and puppies arrived today (Saturday, 9/26).  They are some really good looking dogs! They got a warm bath and went home with their fosters. Next Saturday they will go home with their new families.

Sometimes people back out of the adoption at the last minute and if that happens, we will contact the next person in line for that dog or put it back on the website.

The next transport is scheduled for November 7th.

Simon and Garfunkel need new families but they won’t be in Maine until November or December.

Trisha

Loving my new Life.

Rescue Charlies Friends Dog Rescue Maine

I’m Trisha.  Once I was abandoned and in a shelter.  I heard them talking on the phone with Rescue Charlie’s Friends and the next thing I knew, I was on a bus and rode all the way to Maine.

When I got here, some wonderful people adopted me.  I have never been so happy.  I have lots of new friends and as you can see, plenty of places to explore.  I love my new family so very much and you know what?  They love me too!  I can not thank enough the wonderful people who made my new life possible

Pippa

Loving my new Life.

Rescue Charlies Friends Dog Rescue Maine

Hi, I’m Pappa.  I never met Charlie but I was so happy when his organization brought me and lots of his other friends up from Alabama.  I was adopted a few weeks ago and I have never had such a wonderful life.  I get lots of love and attention and I will love my new family for ever and ever.  I feel so lucky to have been rescued.  Charlie rescues all of his friends that he can and we all love him for it.

My only problem is that I like both of these couches and I can’t make up my mind which one to sleep on.

Simon and Garfunkel

Simon and Garfunkel are about one and a half years old.  They were surrendered by their owners to a shelter that would not have been able to keep them long. Rescue Charlie’s Friends was able to rescue them in time.  We don’t know how long they have been living together.  They can be adopted together or separately.

Simon and Garfunkel did NOT arrive today.  Unfortunately they tested positive for heartworm. so they have to stay in Alabama until their treatment is complete and they test negative.  That usually takes two or three months, so we expect they will arrive in Maine in November or December

Sasha

Sasha is a female Spaniel / Labrador mix.  She is two years old.

Dog Rescue in Maine
Sasha

I was happy because I thought we were going for a ride.  Instead, they left my two babies and me at a shelter.  I heard the people tell my owners that we would be euthanized at the end of the day, but they said they didn’t care.  I didn’t know what “euthanized” meant. but I could tell it wasn’t good.

I was getting the idea that the people at the shelter were trying to help us.  They seemed really worried about us and called some people on the telephone.  Rescue Charlie’s Friends said they would bring all of us to Maine, but another shelter took my babies and said they didn’t want me.  I was glad to see my babies get saved but I sure do miss them.

A nice person from Rescue Charlie’s Friends came and took me out of the shelter,  “Just in time” the shelter people said.  I’m safe now and I’ll be coming to Maine soon.

We don’t think you can watch his video without falling in love.

Nelson

HI, I’m Nelson.

I am so glad they found me. I was just another stray dog wondering around wishing someone would love me or at least give me something to eat.

I was scared out of my mind and I just wanted a safe place to be with people I could love. They found me and brought me here and gave me some food. You can see from my ribs that I haven’t had much of that for a long while. I was covered with ticks and fleas but they fixed that.

I think I’m a Great Dane mixed with something. I’m not sure what and my mom never told me, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to get a lot bigger than I am now. I’m about seven or eight months old.

I’m waiting for someone to adopt me.  Will you adopt me?   Please?

Will you adopt me?

Beautiful Dakota is a loving well behaved little Princess. She is medium to high energy- will do GREAT with an active, on-the-go family that likes to jog, hike, etc. Dakota has a sad background (don’t they all?), she was adopted to a family with a dog that repeatedly attacked her. Because of this, she is now dog selective and needs to be the only dog in the home. But she gets along with most dogs, that’s what’s so sad. And she’s perfect on outings (on leash of course). She loves to meet and greet other dogs.  She would make the perfect family dog. No really little kids because she’s big and might accidentally knock them down

Now I’m coming to Maine and I want to be adopted too, just like she was.  I was so happy when they told me I could come to Maine and I just can’t wait!

Did you hear what happened to us?  My sister and I were found on the side of the road one rainy night.  We were scared but once we realized that the people that found us weren’t going to hurt us, we knew everything would be OK.

Then I got sick with Parvo.  It took me a while to recover, but I am fine now.  The good news is that once you get Parvo, you never get it again.

Hello, I’m Pixie.

I got off to a rough start.  I was chained up in the back yard and nearly starved to death.  Some nice people rescued me from there.  I have been eating and eating and now I have my good looks back.

I am a very sweet lovable girl.  I’m very laid back and easy going but i do have occasional spurts of energy.

I really want to be the only dog in your home because I really love all the attention.  I like other dogs but there are times I just want to be the only dog in your life. But I’m totally fine if we are out walking and see another dog.  I’m not aggressive or reactive.

I’m already crate and potty trained, so you don’t have to worry about that.

I would make a perfect hiking or walking buddy.

Sometimes they call me “Piggy”  I think it’s rude to call me that, but they just laugh and say I make grunting noises and you can even hear them in the video.

Hello there – I’m Bear.  How YOU doing?

All the girls say I’m handsome, lovable and adorable. You can’t really blame them for saying that, I am a good looking dude.

Sometimes they say I look just like a Honey Baked Ham – Very round without much of a neck, so it’s hard for me to reach back and scratch my back end. If you don’t mind, you might have to help me with that sometimes.

I am an absolute LOVE.  I’m very affectionate. I’m mostly a low energy “couch potato” with bursts of energy now and then.

I think I will make a great family dog with kids (no little kids, I might accidentally knock them down).

I  love  people and other dogs and will be good on outings on leash, but I need to be the only dog in the home because I want ALL the attention and I don’t want just any dog playing with my toys.

I’m a happy dog looking for a home and a family I can love.

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.

PLEASE keep up the good work you are doing both for the dogs and the families that are fortunate enough to adopt them.

From Foster to Adopter

I have always been a dog person.
For as long as I can remember I have had a special bond with these four legged loves.
When my karma died I thought that my heart would rip in two. To me, and many other pet owners, a dog is very much a part of your family, another child. There is nothing like the love that a dog has for their humans.
For many years I have wanted another dog, but as we all know it’s a lot of work and I’ve got enough going on in my life, Ha!

Fostering has been wonderful, it helps teach my kids responsibility, it shows them the importance of volunteer work and helping other beings, we get to have puppies around, and we got to save all of these beautiful dogs who otherwise wouldn’t have it so great.

I would highly recommend it for anyone out there who is a dog lover. It’s hard, yes, because you do fall in love, but it also gives life so much meaning, and it’s such an amazing feeling to see these dogs go to a new special home after coming from not so great circumstances.

This dog right here came into our life by chance. We are going away and the rescue just needed help with her for the weekend so they asked us. From the moment she got into our car, something was different. There was an immediate bond with my oldest and when we took her home it quickly extended to everyone. It just felt like she was coming home. We were absolutely not thinking about getting another dog right now, but just like Hazel, we absolutely could not let her go. She just fit. Even Hazel is realizing that she has a new body. This poor sweet dog had a rough beginning, but we’re here to make sure that the rest of her life is a grand one! I am so thankful that this sweet soul chose us. ❤️
