Will you help rescue his friends?

Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Friday, May 1st: Charlie is at the Hospital fighting for his life. He was fine, happy and playing last night.  This morning  he collapsed and was unable to stand or walk.  We rushed him to the veterinarian who found that he was bleeding internally due to tumors on his spleen.  Surgery is not recommended because the cancer has likely already spread.  He is at the hospital now and they are trying to stabilize his blood pressure and get the bleeding to stop.  If successful, we will bring him home later tonight and he will be on Yunnan Baiyao for the rest of his days.  This is not a cure but it may give him a few more weeks or months of life.  The veterinarian does not believe that he is in pain.  We are sorry to say if his vitals won’t stabilize we will have to say good bye to Charlie. Please wish him well!
Friday night update 8:30 PM Charlie came out of the hospital walking on his own with his tail wagging.  We got him home and he went downhill a bit and had to be carried to his bed. He is in his bed now and we will have to wait and see how he is in the morning.
Friday night update 11:30 PM Our beloved Charlie died quietly in his bed moments ago.  He was comforted by the ones he loved during his last moments.  We will always love him.

Charlie’s Dream
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather and operate not just as a dog rescue but as a dog shelter. We will do all we can to make his dream come true.  You can help with a donation to his GoFundMe account.

Meet Charlie's Friends

2019 was a huge success and 2020 is off to a great start! Charlie with help from our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and donors is rescuing lots of his friends. Click here to see some of the many dogs that have already found new homes.

Ruby

Ruby is a female Labrador mix. She is four years old and weighs 40 to 45 pounds.

Hi, may name is Ruby.  I’m a Labrador mix and I’m four years old.  I’m potty trained and good with everyone but I prefer not to be around small kids or cats.  I’m very sweet.

I’m good with other dogs but I like to meet them slowly and spend a little time getting to know them before we play together. If I had my way, I would be in a family with no other dogs.  Why?  Because I like the attention!

Did they tell you that Bo is my son?

The Shepherd/Lab Crew

Here are six good looking  siblings only seven months old.  They are Shepherd / Labrador mixes.  Four girls and two boys.

I’m really friendly with everyone, but the thing is I’m scared.  I really hope you will be patient with me and give me some love and a little time to get used to things.

I really want to please you but I need a little guidance. I’ve never had a real home before and I don’t really know what you want.  If you will just gently show me what I should do I will do my absolute best for you.  I’m so scared I might do something wrong and you won’t love me.  I want so badly for you to love me.  I will love you forever.

Lucy

I’m very sweet and great with kids, adults and everybody.  I’m good with other dogs too, but I need a SLOW introduction to them.  I’ll make friends with them, but I take my time doing it.

I need some basic training too.  I tend to pull when I’m on a leash.  If you want to take me for a walk instead of the other way around, please use a collar.  A Martingale Collar works best.   A harness just makes it easier for me to pull you around.

Yes, of course I’m house broken.  It’s a little embarrassing that you had to ask.

I just want to be a part of your family.  I would love that and I will love you if you will just give me a chance.

Did I tell you that I’m already in Maine and just waiting for you?

Will you adopt me?  Please?

Ace

Hello, I’m Ace.  I’m here in Maine and just waiting for you to adopt me!

I’m five years old.  I’ve been around the block a few times and I have things sorted out pretty well.

There are things you don’t want me to do in the house.  I get it.  Just let me out once in a while so i can take care of business.

Also, don’t eat your shoes.  I get that too.  Don’t worry.  I’ll be good and I’ll take care of you.  Now if you don’t mind I’m going to just lay here and let her scratch my back some more.

I’m great with kids.  I like other dogs but I like a SLOW introduction.  I really don’t like dogs jumping in my face.

Cats?  Not my  favorite thing.  I’ll chase them around if you let me.

They brought me all the way to Maine so I’m here now and just waiting for you to adopt me.  Will you?  Please?

Allie and Andy

Allie is a female and Andy is her brother.  They are six year old Chihuahua mixes.

We are Bubba and Heart.  I am Heart, the all black one and I’m a girl.  The white one with a heart on his side is Bubba and he is a boy.
I know, I know.  Why isn’t the one with the Heart on his side named Heart?  Well, I don’t know, but he’s not.  His name is Bubba and he is white with a few black markings including the heart on his side.

Now like I said, my name is Heart and I’m all black and I DO NOT have a heart on my side.

We are Great Dane mixed with something else, not too sure what, but we are already about fifty pounds.  I think we are going to need a little room to run.

We are hoping to get adopted when we get to Maine.  Get ready Maine, we are coming soon!

So is that OK with you?  Will you adopt me?  I have never had the chance to lay next to someone on a couch.  I hear it’s great.  Can we do that?

I like to get to know people and other dogs a bit before just being thrown in with them.
I like cats.  The black cat is my friend.  I don’t know her name.  I used to call her “Hey, Cat” but now I just call her Blackie.

Tootsie

Tootsie is a female Terrier mix.  She is one and a half years old.

Everybody says I look like Toto from the Wizard of Oz.  What do you think?

By the way, did they tell you that I’m the mom of Caramel, Brownie and Fudge?  I am very proud of those three wonderful puppies but I had nothing to do with picking their names.

I would have chosen some other names – not names about food.  Don’t they know that dogs aren’t supposed to eat things containing chocolate?  What would I have named them?  I’m thinking.  I’ll get back to you.

Another thing you should know…
I’m very sweet (everyone says so) and I’m great with everyone, even kids.

When we heard that Charlie passed away all of us here started bawling and crying and we just couldn’t stop.  Even though we weren’t going to actually meet Charlie until we got to Maine we were all so sad.  He has saved so many of us.  Dogs like me and Josie and all the others owe our very lives to Charlie,  If it wasn’t for Charlie, Josie and I would still be in that horrible house.

We were very glad to hear that even though Charlie is gone, his work will live on and he will keep saving dogs.  I wish we had gotten the chance to meet him and thank him personally.

What people are saying

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.

PLEASE keep up the good work you are doing both for the dogs and the families that are fortunate enough to adopt them.

From Foster to Adopter

I have always been a dog person.
For as long as I can remember I have had a special bond with these four legged loves.
When my karma died I thought that my heart would rip in two. To me, and many other pet owners, a dog is very much a part of your family, another child. There is nothing like the love that a dog has for their humans.
For many years I have wanted another dog, but as we all know it’s a lot of work and I’ve got enough going on in my life, Ha!

Fostering has been wonderful, it helps teach my kids responsibility, it shows them the importance of volunteer work and helping other beings, we get to have puppies around, and we got to save all of these beautiful dogs who otherwise wouldn’t have it so great.

I would highly recommend it for anyone out there who is a dog lover. It’s hard, yes, because you do fall in love, but it also gives life so much meaning, and it’s such an amazing feeling to see these dogs go to a new special home after coming from not so great circumstances.

This dog right here came into our life by chance. We are going away and the rescue just needed help with her for the weekend so they asked us. From the moment she got into our car, something was different. There was an immediate bond with my oldest and when we took her home it quickly extended to everyone. It just felt like she was coming home. We were absolutely not thinking about getting another dog right now, but just like Hazel, we absolutely could not let her go. She just fit. Even Hazel is realizing that she has a new body. This poor sweet dog had a rough beginning, but we’re here to make sure that the rest of her life is a grand one! I am so thankful that this sweet soul chose us. ❤️
