Will you help rescue his friends?

Meet Charlie

Hi, I’m Charlie.

This dog rescue organization is named after me.

My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food.  It was crowded and they had to make room because more dogs were coming.

If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us.

Some of my friends are in the same terrible situation and they need help.

Will you help me save my friends?

Let’s make sure they get a new life in a warm and loving home.

Save a life.  Adopt one of my friends.

Lets go!

Can you please hurry?

My friends are waiting!

Is it OK if I drive?

Charlie’s Dream
Charlie was an inspiration for all of us, humans and dogs. He saved hundreds of dogs and maybe some humans too in his years working with Rescue Charlie’s Friends. He saw all the dogs passing through and we think he knew he was doing something wonderful.

Charlie died on May 1st, 2020.  We miss him terribly.

Rescue Charlie’s Friends will live on in his memory and continue to rescue dogs. Charlie’s dream was to have his own building where he could receive the transports indoors out of the weather and operate not just as a dog rescue but as a dog shelter. We will do all we can to make his dream come true.  You can help with a donation to his GoFundMe account.

Meet Charlie's Friends

We are at the half way mark in 2020 and Charlie is on track to rescue more dogs than even last year.

Charlie with help from our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and donors is rescuing lots of his friends. Click here to see some of the many dogs that have already found new homes.

All dogs and puppies adopted through Rescue Charlie’s Friends are in full compliance with all Maine health requirements including quarantine periods, exceed the minimum age for importation, have current health certificates, have received all age appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered.

If you want to be the first to know, get a sneak peek and be notified of our adoption events, just sign up for our email.

More Dogs Coming?

Yes!  The next transport is scheduled for September 12th!  Wait until you see what will be coming!  We will start putting them on the website next week.

All the dogs that arrived on August 8th are on the website now.  Their quarantine is nearly over and they will be going to their new families.  That is the part we love the most – all the happy dogs and excited happy people!

Zoey Bella

Hello, I am Zoey Bella.  I am very sweet and I love everyone.  People here are making fun of me because (they say) I’m a little overweight.  Well look in the mirror sweetheart!  Oops, sorry, I should not have said that.

I am looking for a family to love.  I’m nine years old so I long ago learned what to do outside and not in the house and lost interest in eating your slippers.  I would much rather just lay next to you on the couch and watch Hallmark movies.  I like them because they always have a happy ending.

Will you please adopt me?

I’m ready to meet my new family!

Rescue Charlies Friends Dog Rescue Maine
Bear

Hello there – I’m Bear.  How YOU doing?

All the girls say I’m handsome, lovable and adorable. You can’t really blame them for saying that, I am a good looking dude.

Sometimes they say I look just like a Honey Baked Ham – Very round without much of a neck, so it’s hard for me to reach back and scratch my back end. If you don’t mind, you might have to help me with that sometimes.

I am an absolute LOVE.  I’m very affectionate. I’m mostly a low energy “couch potato” with bursts of energy now and then.

I think I will make a great family dog with kids (no little kids, I might accidentally knock them down).

I  love  people and other dogs and will be good on outings on leash, but I need to be the only dog in the home because I want ALL the attention and I don’t want just any dog playing with my toys.

I’m a happy dog looking for a home and a family I can love.

Will you adopt me?

Beautiful Dakota is a loving well behaved little Princess. She is medium to high energy- will do GREAT with an active, on-the-go family that likes to jog, hike, etc. Dakota has a sad background (don’t they all?), she was adopted to a family with a dog that repeatedly attacked her. Because of this, she is now dog selective and needs to be the only dog in the home. But she gets along with most dogs, that’s what’s so sad. And she’s perfect on outings (on leash of course). She loves to meet and greet other dogs.  She would make the perfect family dog. No really little kids because she’s big and might accidentally knock them down

Hello. I’m Macie.  I’m already six years old so all my bad puppy habits are done.  I’m housebroken and I won’t eat your slippers.  That’s for puppies.

I’m good with everyone but I am a bit nervous at first, so I like it when people approach me slowly and give me a chance to sniff them and see what they are all about before we go much farther. OK with you?
Here is what I really, really hope for.  A family I can love forever and a couch where I can lay next to you.

Pixie

Hello, I’m Pixie.

I got off to a rough start.  I was chained up in the back yard and nearly starved to death.  Some nice people rescued me from there.  I have been eating and eating and now I have my good looks back.

I am a very sweet lovable girl.  I’m very laid back and easy going but i do have occasional spurts of energy.

I really want to be the only dog in your home because I really love all the attention.  I like other dogs but there are times I just want to be the only dog in your life. But I’m totally fine if we are out walking and see another dog.  I’m not aggressive or reactive.

I’m already crate and potty trained, so you don’t have to worry about that.

I would make a perfect hiking or walking buddy.

Sometimes they call me “Piggy”  I think it’s rude to call me that, but they just laugh and say I make grunting noises and you can even hear them in the video.

Tobias is an English Bulldog Mix. He is a male, five years old and weighs sixty five pounds.

Tobias is your “couch potato”, “Netflix and Chill” dog. He loves everyone he meets, and would love nothing more than to watch movies with you all day. He is good with other dogs, but can sometimes have resource guarding with toys. Because of that, we are recommending he be the only dog in the home. BUT, he would be the perfect gentleman on outings. What people are saying

I adopted a puppy from Rescue Charlie’s Friends on June 2, 2018 named August. My thirteen year old dog had passed away the month before.

I renamed him. Bud Lite. Bud because he is my Buddy and Lite because he is the Lite of my life.

I am some what of a hermit, but Buddy gets me out walking everyday. We have met many wonderful people and other dogs on our walks.

He means everything to me.

PLEASE keep up the good work you are doing both for the dogs and the families that are fortunate enough to adopt them.

From Foster to Adopter

I have always been a dog person.
For as long as I can remember I have had a special bond with these four legged loves.
When my karma died I thought that my heart would rip in two. To me, and many other pet owners, a dog is very much a part of your family, another child. There is nothing like the love that a dog has for their humans.
For many years I have wanted another dog, but as we all know it’s a lot of work and I’ve got enough going on in my life, Ha!

Fostering has been wonderful, it helps teach my kids responsibility, it shows them the importance of volunteer work and helping other beings, we get to have puppies around, and we got to save all of these beautiful dogs who otherwise wouldn’t have it so great.

I would highly recommend it for anyone out there who is a dog lover. It’s hard, yes, because you do fall in love, but it also gives life so much meaning, and it’s such an amazing feeling to see these dogs go to a new special home after coming from not so great circumstances.

This dog right here came into our life by chance. We are going away and the rescue just needed help with her for the weekend so they asked us. From the moment she got into our car, something was different. There was an immediate bond with my oldest and when we took her home it quickly extended to everyone. It just felt like she was coming home. We were absolutely not thinking about getting another dog right now, but just like Hazel, we absolutely could not let her go. She just fit. Even Hazel is realizing that she has a new body. This poor sweet dog had a rough beginning, but we’re here to make sure that the rest of her life is a grand one! I am so thankful that this sweet soul chose us. ❤️

Don’t let that stop you, fill out an application anyway and be in “backup” position.  If the person changes their mind or backs out, we will contact the person next in line for that dog.

Want to reserve your own?
Just fill out an Adoption Application.
After you are approved you can place a $100 deposit (refundable) to reserve your dog!
